Jean Soucy is a native of Rivière-du-Loup, where he did his elementary, high school and CEGEP education. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Law, a Notarial Law degree and a Master's degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Ottawa. He has been practicing as a notary in Rivière-du-Loup since 1977.

Jean Soucy conducted a general practice of notarial law from 1977 to 1979. Since 1980, his practice has focused almost exclusively on business law, corporate law, corporate financing, acquisition, reorganization, tax and estate planning and the settlement of estates of business people.
