Mageau

Title: lawyer, equity partner Year of call: 1978

Expertise: litigation  |  administrative law

Claude Mageau is a partner in the firm and has been practicing law for 39 years in various aspects of civil, administrative, and commercial litigation. He has worked on many cases involving police ethics and civil liability with regard to various police forces in Québec. He also represented Sûreté du Québec before the Poitras Commission (inquiry into Sûreté du Québec).

Claude regularly argues cases before disciplinary and regulatory authorities in the securities and financial products industry as well as disciplinary committees of various professional bodies. His extensive experience also serves him well in cases of labor law and penal law. To that effect, he represented Transpavé Inc., a corporation which was subject to a charge of criminal negligence causing the death of a worker. It was the first time that a charge of criminal negligence causing death was laid against a corporation in Canada since the 2004 amendments to the Criminal Code came into force. These amendments facilitate criminal charges against corporations when a work-related injury occurs.
